A bit off topic, I know, but I was wondering if you guys could help me out here seeing as I've no idea where else to ask.

An introduction first: Girl Disease are a doujin group that are basically a female fronted Sound Horizon. They do concept albums with similar musical styles and while Girl Disease don't quite have the same budget their stuff is pretty well made.
http://www.girldisease.com/
You can check out some songs by looking at the albums there.

So anyway, I was wondering if anyone could point me to where I could get an album translated? Specifically I'm looking at Lorelei. A friend looked over it and noted that not all the dialogue is included in the booklet, so I'd need someone who can speak as well as read Japanese to translate it. I am willing to pay to have it done.
Thanks for any help.

I guess Girl Disease general? If you guys are up for it.

Seems everyone here is discussing doujin music in some way similar to SH; may as well list the following groups:

少女病 (syoujobyou) - they have great deal of good SH'ish stuff, yet slowly develop their own style (especially notable is 慟哭ルクセイン single)
Absolute Castaway - started off with narration, each new work blending it with wide gamut of musical styles;
Krik/Krak - immensely inspired by SH and very crafty in recreating atmosphere of it's early works while adding some adequate spice (in my opinion);
しらゆりの会 (sirayuri no kai) - collaboration between Queen of Wand and Rokugen Alice, quite eclectic and wonderful in it's on 'aristocratic' way;
君の美術館 (kimi no museum) - narration at it's finest with strong accent on male vocals

Either way, this list is quite rough, as each group music (as well as SH's works) is unique in it's own way. Among other quite 'special' or 'unique' doujin circles i'd also like to name aforementioned 六弦アリス, love solfege', Queen of Wand, Middleisland, NanosizeMir, Binaria, Alieson, 植木屋, 池田奨, lolita neurosis, Voltage of Imagination and so on.

Well, this is a problem, of course. Yet, it's possible to find some in p2p networks (such as japanese Share and PD or western KAD, edonkey). For DDL you may look at nakidorinorakuen.blogspot.com and comiget.com. There is good chinese aggregation of all things japanese: tora.to, yet it sometimes experience disastrous connection problems. There is astost.com which has tons of doujin music (even in shiny lossles), yet not many have any idea how to download from there. Also, something relatively popular (and fresh from the latest Comike/M3) may pop out on such trackers as tokyotosho.info or nyaatorrents.org.

And, by the way, 3 years ago it was quite an arduous task to find any albums (lest the concert videos!) of Sound Horizon.. Time surely flies.

>> No.1400

@Anon that provided links.

Thanks a bunch, man! I never knew so many places to find doujin music on. I've gotten most of what I have from the LJ community, which isn't an option anymore since MU died in HK...

Kajiura is one of my favorite composers as well, but I felt that her style overshadowed Revo's style waaay too much in Dream Port, and I didn't really enjoy it.:/ I'm just really biased for Revo since Sound Horizon is a Love At First Hearing thing for me; the Snow White/Rose Princess to my Tettere Ouji. lol

That sounds completely awesome, except I have no idea how the hell the two of them are going to mix their styles. I would love to see it though...

I don't think a collaboration could work out, honestly. Her style's too... uh... High Fantasy Ethnic Celticy? It's hard to describe. But then again, Revo was able to work with Shimotsukin who later sung with Shikata, so who knows. Personally, when it comes to possible collaborations with Revo, I'd recommend Chata over Shikata.

(The image board should be entirely unaffected)

I am sure most of you will not care (or even notice), but I am going to be taking down the broken and busted main page (how many of you even know that exists?) and actually start building up the wiki (http://flandre.us/shwiki/).

I have locked out anonymous users from being able to edit articles (since it was full of spam edits). I have also (very temporarily) locked normal users from being able to edit because there are a few things I want to finish getting done first.

This is, though, something I'll be completely unable to maintain on my own so I will welcome anyone that wants to help. I'll give more details on what specific kinds of things I need help on later; this is just a general announcement.

First on the list of things to do is upgrade the out-of-date-by-a-year mediawiki software.
Expect further updates over the weekend.

>> No.1412

(Apparently broke the board, despite saying I wouldn't. It is fixed now, though. I apologize for the inconvenience.)

I successfully updated the mediawiki software and added a bunch of content, including a full discography page.

Then I made an album page for the Roman album and a track page for the first of the tracks in order to experiment with styles a bit before going much further.

Found out I didn't have the citation addon installed, so it is now added to the wiki (and can use it to make translation notes)

I have come up with a basic format for album and lyric pages, but that's not to say it can't be made to look nicer.

Will make a third post later listing what things I would like help with, if any of you would like to volunteer your time. Otherwise I will continue working on putting stuff up but I cannot do it at a very fast speed.

>> No.1418

Okay, I have had a really busy past week and a half, but I am not going to up and vanish yet again. This week, while not as bad, is shaping up to be pretty bad itself. Regardless, I am going to attempt to continue working bit by bit.

What I need (well, would really like) right now is two things: First, I would like feedback on the current layout/organization and suggestions for how it could be made better. Second, if there is anyone that would like to help in adding the other translations posted throughout the board, that would be a great help. While I am going to try to continue to do this myself, there are two main hindrances: my lack of very much free time, and my obsessive compulsion to edit the translations to (debatably) improve them.

>> No.1423

You're alive!
Good to see you around man~

>> No.1468

I have no fucking idea how to edit wiki-stuff, but a SH wiki would be nice so maybe I should try to learn...

>> No.1470

>>1423
Yes, I am still somewhat alive.

>>1468
Hey man, I have no idea how to do it, either. I have to look up syntax every two minutes whenever I am doing it.

There were one or two more things I wanted to do before I opened up the wiki to public editing (though I will still probably keep anonymous editing off for now to cut down on spam) but I got really busy and forgot what they were. If I don't remember by the end of the weekend I might just go ahead and open it.

I think I am mostly decided on the style for lyrics. So if anyone else has any opinions for improvements to lyric pages, tell me now. Because it'll be painful to change style once lyrics pages are added for every song.

>> No.1540

Alright, guys, I (finally) got off my ass and finalized a few things and opened up editing to users. At the moment anonymous editing is disabled because I don't want to deal with spambots, so you'll have to create an account to edit things. This might change later.

I wrote up a short list of guidelines to follow to keep things consistent: http://flandre.us/shwiki/index.php5?title=Style_Guide
If you know nothing about wiki markup language, don't worry; I don't either. I manage to get by using wikipedia's help article on it (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Wiki_markup) but if all else fails just copy the code from the pages I wrote up or something.

I may or may not slowly start trying to fill the pages out sometime soon, so don't feel you need to wait for me.

Let's be honest for a moment here. I was a gigantic SH fan up through a couple years back with the Moira release. While it was clear that revo's skill had grown, I just had some problems with the style and sound of the album in general.

But Marchen seems to be closer to Roman and Elysion in style, and so I have fallen in love with the band all over again.

It's been a sad while away, but I am glad to be back as a fan.

Am I the only one? Does anyone else have similar stories?

3 posts omitted. Click Reply to view.
>> No.1513

Well, it wasn't really the mythos that bothered me. There were also aspects of the storytelling and such that I didn't like as much in Moira. It's difficult to explain exactly what bothered me about Moira (heck, I probably don't completely understand why, myself). There are a couple of things I can pinpoint, but they are probably not even the main issues.

Moira just seemed like it had too much going on at the same time. Instead of having individual stories compartmentalized in single tracks with vague connections drawn between them, it seemed to try to tell all the stories at the same time continuously throughout the whole album. Which makes it difficult to listen to a single track alone.

Chronicle 2nd DID have stories set across multiple tracks, but only at a couple of really important parts. The fact that they skip ahead a number of volumes and chapters between every song keeps them from being TOO continuous.

But even just the general style of music, while I can tell Moira was some of the most skilled orchestral composition Revo had ever done (though I still liked dream port better), it just didn't catch me as much. Outside of certain bits and pieces, that is.

>> No.1516

I like to pretend there is no 6th Horizon, maybe someone ripped the pages and it got lost for all eternity, my dislike for Moira knows no bounds.

>>1510
I can see the similarities with the Holy war saga, but for the most part the rest of the stories are self contained. Nothing like Moira's musical fiasco.

>> No.1520

I've only really liked Sound Horizon since Roman, with a couple songs before (I'm not really into Aramary, or her playing 18 different people, who, for some reason, all have the exact same voice, with just a differing level in creepiness). In fact, most pre-Shonen single songs I like contain other singers, except maybe Stardust, Rein no Sekai, Lafrenz, and the third vocal track of Leviathan.

>> No.1531

You know, now that Märchen's been out a while... I kind of feel like I liked Moira more.

There's something that irks me about Märchen, but I can't quite place my finger on it. maybe I just don't like the fact the stories are based on fairy-tales, or maybe there's just too many different vocals, or maybe there's not enough harmonies or something, I dunno. Oh well, I'm still looking forward to Revo's next work. Hopefully he'll show us something new and awesome next time!

>> No.1537

You're not the only one. ;_; But if Revo himself is satisfied with the outcome of Moira, then there's nothing we can say to make him change his mind and publish a Moira 2nd. >> No.1503

Elisabeth was pretty, yes.

During Elisabeth's whole speech in Haritsuke, Marchen was sorta just standing there dumbfounded. He was visibly shaken, but didn't react much in terms of movements. At the end, Elisabeth sings "tada no Elisabeth" and hugs Marchen. He doesn't fully return the embrace, but I remember him trying to raise his hands, but then the curtain covered them, so...

During Elise's part, she basically hopped around a lot in the lower part of the stage while Marchen silently ascended the stairs into the upper part. Even in the end she could only struggle in the lower stage, and was brought backstage through the stage door.

The dark voice....you mean the Sascha like voice speaking hard-to-hear German? No, it wasn't shown. During that part, we're treated to a nice picture of a well, but nothing else.

Something was bugging me almost since the beginning : the term "Id" was clearly used to describe someone or something, without being able to point out what it was exactly. Maybe it was because I'm not an english native, but after a small search, I found that the id was a Freudian concept that matches perfectly with the album. Here's the wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Id,_ego,_and_super-ego), this concept lead me to a theory about Mär/Elise(someone we don't know anything at all, if I'm not mistaking)/Elizabeth.
Elise would be the id of Mär, Mär being exactly his ego, and Elizabeth his super ego, according to the tracks 8 and 9(the "destruction" of Elise, and the repentance of Mär).
It doesn't solve the Anneliese matter, but since I found this other meaning to Id, I can't help but think that's not a mere coïncidence...

>> No.1561

I always took it as whenever Abyss said "erisu", I assumed he meant "Eris", after the Goddess of chaos/destruction. After all, all of the girls end in some tragedy, right?

As for Ido... "ido" itself means a well but in the album, they also use it as a term for revenge.

My interpretation of the central story is that Marz thought that the people that threw him into the literal "ido" (well) were messengers from Elizabeth's place so he thought that she betrayed him, thus threw him into "ido" (revenge).

Sorry for the necropost!

4. How did you get to know SH?
Hrm…I used to be a Gaiafag, and someone on there was into SH roleplaying. The only thing I thought of it was, “Wait, this is a band? And they want to rp these specific characters? From a band? How does this work?”
Then, a few months later, I was browsing on YouTube and Eru no Rakuen [side:E] showed up under the Related Videos. I remembered the name Sound Horizon and clicked on the video out of curiosity, and the rest is history.
5.The first SH CD you listened to was?
Elysion.

26.What do you think about the series of tragic love stories in Elysion?
They’re really fascinating to me. I wish Revo would go back to that sort of storytelling. ;__;
27.Did you ever imagine what Abyss could've looked like, aside from his appearance on the cover?
I tried, and he turned out pretty handsome in my head. Then I see all these fanarts and I come to the realization that he’s probably a beardy, creepy old man.
28.Ever tried using the magic spell in Please!Picomari to call out picomajin?(laughs)
Only when I’m singing along. xD
29.Which CD cover do you think fits the content best?
Well, Moira definitely has all the characters on it. But I think the Roman cover really captures the message of that CD well.
30.How do you think 'horizon' relates to SH?
All these good questions. I think that SH’s “horizon” is really every individual’s perception of their lives and other events in the world. No matter how definite an event is, people are going to have different interpretations of it and opinions. SH’s horizons seek to convey those people’s feelings and ideas. And this came out a lot worse than it did in my head.

The song titles for the new maxi single have been announced.

1.) 光と闇の童話 - The Fairytale of Light and Darkness

2.) この狭い鳥籠の中で - In This Tiny Bird Cage

3.) 彼女が魔女になった理由 - The Reason That Woman Became a Witch

...and have they really recruited Marty Friedman as the narrator? Wow... wtf...

Revo seems to be pretty sick of fags telling him to "make songs like that one again!" or "use [insert name of singer here] more!", so I'm kind of thinking we'll get a completely new cast soon.
Seems like people are forgetting that Revo is the only actual member of this band. Still he's in his mid-thirties now, I really wish he'd stop cosplaying.

Also, if he used Miku out of laziness I really doubt he'd get Miku's actual voice provider to do her speaking lines.

That's close minded, thinking that someone his age shouldn't cosplay. Everyone should cosplay if they want, regardless of age.

Question~ what time period do these three songs take place in? I'm getting a lot of mixed messages on the history of the story from looking at the art and stuff. So I did some research and now I'm more confused.

The last outbreak of the Black Plague in Germany took place in the mid-1600s. Germany was still notorious for witch-burning during that era, so it's plausible that it takes place then, buuuut I'm going to nitpick because I'm a huge fashion history geek.

Maerz's collar and breeches are early to mid 1600s style, but loose sleeves and boots were also the style in the early 1600s. Maerz's upturned sleeves and his shoes are the style of the latter half of that century.

Elisabeth's dress doesn't fit either way. It would look like this picture if it was from the same century as Maerz's clothes. In that era, women wore big poofy sleeves and dropped shoulders. Elisabeth's dress is obviously Victorian in style, and from the silhouette shape I would place it in the late 1860s. The bodice is more 1870s style, though. Her hair really doesn't fit anywhere.

Aaaand don't even get me started on interior design :)

I think how he used Miku was perfectly alright. Miku was used to voice/sing for a creepy ass doll character. And 'Miku' pulls off the creepy doll voice pretty damn well considering what she is.

I don't think they even wanted to achieve historical accuracy. In fact, from what the lyrics say (Black Death, Wise Women, Witch burnings..) it could have taken place anywhere between XIV and late XVII centuries.

So my guess is that, both visually and historically, all they wanted to achieve was giving the watcher/listener a "geman-like" feeling.

The names of Marz von Ludowing and Elizabeth von Wettin are a something of a hint; real-life Thuringia was ruled by the Ludowingian line until their extinction in 1247, after which they were succeeded by the Wettin dynasty.

Agh, I dunno. Doesn't help that Therese's genealogical tree resembles a lawn trellis, but I like to think Therese's father didn't have any more children but her and that she and Marz ended the Ludowingian line (adds a nice angle to the Elisabeth/Marz relationship) but doesn't really solve anything timeline-wise. Anyway, I'm of the view that the Black Death outbreak mentioned in Hikari to Yami no Douwa is the most well-known one from 1348 (mostly Elise's lines that could be interpreted as being about overpopulation) and that Therese and Marz came to the village well after it became deserted. (Again, Elise's lines sorta sound like that to me, plus if you were on the run from the Landgraaf, what's a better hiding place than an once-village ravaged by the plague in the middle of the forest?)

Okay, I know, I'm not helping. Most I can tell you that the story is definitely long over by the time of the Brothers Grimm, so yeah, anywhere from the XIVth to XVIth century.

It looks like Idofried Ehrenburg was a mistake, according to the official site.

But who knows, it could be meaningful.

Also, I've always assumed the man with Elise to be Id(supported by the portrait titles on the official site)...but apparently from the lives Elise calls him "Merumeru", which could be the cutesy variation of "Maerchen(meruhien)", which seems to be what most of the Japanese fandom refers to him as. I'm...confused.:/

>> No.1356

Therese was called "Thuringian witch", and Ehrenberg (Idolfried's last name) is, "accidentally", the name of a town near Thuringian forest. All that I can assume from those real-life details is, Thuringian forest was the place where the story took place, and townspeople in Ehrenberg were also those who accused Therese of being a witch and burned her at the stake.

Marchen von Friedhof means "fairytale from graveyard", so that name may just indicate the story, not truly... a name of a person. IMO, "Meru" (Mär) is more like the cute form of März, Therese also called her son "Meru". To make it short, März → Ido, while "Märchen (...)" is telling us an fairytale from the past (prologue) to introduce the character Ido, and the new album will be the real beginning of Ido's story.

The thing is, Revo never credited himself with anything other than the name of the character(Hiver Laurant in Roman, Elefseus in Moira, Shaytan in Iberia), so I think it could be reasonable to assume Maerchen von Friedhof is the character he's playing in Idoido. It's also possible that he was named similarly to Maerz since they're the same person...if you buy into that theory.

idk, I'm probably going with Maerchen for now since that's what 90% of the Japanese fandom calls him...the other 10% seems to stick with Id, but that option seems less and less likely...unless he likes referring to himself in third person.

The casting in Revo's recent birthday concert is quite hilarious. They can't get all the Moira cast back, so they had Jimang as Leontius(with a shovel to boot) and Ike as Orpheus of all things.
